JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria will review suggestions from the public regarding the change of the name of Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) to MH Thamrin Stadium in accordance with laws and regulations before issuing a decision.

According to Ariza, all Jakarta residents have the right to express their opinion to the local government. However, Riza said that his party had not yet received a copy of the proposal to change the name of the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS).

"I haven't received it yet, thank you for the input. Of course we will consider all inputs," said Ariza at DKI City Hall.

As a country that refers to a democratic system, the expression of opinions is the right of all people. Moreover, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government when making policies refers to the applicable rules.

"This provincial government in every policy making, the Governor and all of our staff, apart from referring to the rules, provisions, laws and regulations, and also always listening to the opinions of the aspirations of the community," he said.

Meanwhile, historian from the University of Indonesia, JJ Rizal, added that his party had made an online petition through the change.org site entitled 'The Name of JIS Is More Suitable for MH Thamrin Stadium!'. As of Thursday, June 9 at around 09.00 WIB, the petition has been signed by 4,958 people from the target of 5,000 people.

On the website, Rizal revealed that the naming of JIS is considered to violate Law Number 24 of 2009 because it uses English.

In addition, the name JIS does not seem to be able to spur enthusiasm to advance national football because it does not use the name of an inspiring historical figure.

It was proposed to take the name Soeratin which refers to the name of the founding figure of the All-Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), but history shows that there is a more appropriate figure, namely MH Thamrin.
