Burning Ship In Batam, One Crew Member Is Suspected To Be Missing

BATAM - A crew member (ABK) is still being searched in the event that a passenger ship carrying passengers between provinces to Batam-Pekanbaru caught fire due to the explosion.

"We are still searching for one of the crew members of the MV Dumai Line 5 who is believed to have disappeared when the ship caught fire," said Tanjungpinang SAR chief Slamet Riyadi, quoted by Antara, Thursday, June 9.

But he said information regarding one missing victim was uncertain. Currently, his party and the police are still investigating whether there were any victims who were missing at the time of the incident.

"But we from Basarnas are still conducting sweeps, monitoring and seeking information," he continued.

Slamet explained from the data that the SAR Team received, there were five crew members who suffered burns, namely Denny Andesrul, Muhammad Zapin, Eri Sembiring, Royan Situmorang, and Rahmat Ramdhani and one victim died of Doni Tri Hendrawan. All victims were evacuated to RSBP Sekupang.

"Until now, the SAR team has continued to search, monitor, and search for information at the scene using lifeboat KN SAR Purworejo 101," he said.

On Wednesday (8/6) night at around 21.45 WIB, the picket officer for KN SAR Purworejo 101 heard an explosion, which not long after that a fire broke out from the Dumai Line 5 ship near the waters of the Sekupang port.

"KN SAR Purworejo 101 and the Batam SAR Post Team immediately took action to help extinguish the fire on the Dumai Line 5 ship. The fire was then successfully extinguished at 00.00 WIB," he said.
