The Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Kombes AM Kamal, said that the helicopter carrying the patient made an emergency landing.
"The incident started when the medical team received information that there were pregnant women who needed medical assistance to give birth in the Jila area," Kombes Kamal said in a written statement, Wednesday, June 8.
The helicopter departed at 08.15 WIT and arrived at Jila District at 08.40 WIT.
"The helicopter carried 11 passengers consisting of 3 crew members, 5 people and 3 medical teams," said Kamal.
The helicopter then departed from Jila to Timika at 09.00 WIT.
However, at around 09.25 WIT, the Mimika puskesmas had not received a report so the puskesmas coordinated with the SAR Team, Mimika Police, Kodim, and the Air Force.
"In response to the report, 3 helicopters were dispatched to search for the helicopters," continued Kombes Kamal.
At the location, the joint SAR team evacuated the victims to Timika for medical treatment. The SAR team that carried out the evacuation arrived in Timika at 16.30 WIT.
"Earlier after the evacuation of 11 passengers consisting of 3 crew, 3 medical teams and 5 family members, it turns out that one small child aged 2-3 years has not been found," said Kombes Kamal.
It is planned that on Thursday, June 9, the joint SAR team in Timika will conduct a search around the location.
"Tomorrow the joint SAR team from Mimika Regency and the TNI-Polri will check and search around the location," said Kombes Kamal.
