Build At-Taufiq Mosque, Megawati: Our Initiative To Remember The Late Mr. Taufiq Kiemas

JAKARTA - PDI-P General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri said the At-Taufiq Mosque was built to commemorate her late husband, Taufiq Kiemas. This mosque can later be used for cadres and the surrounding community.

"The At-Taufiq Mosque was built on the initiative of our family to commemorate the late Mr. Taufiq Kiemas," Megawati said at the inauguration of the At-Taufiq Mosque in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, Wednesday, June 8.

"This mosque is intended for the wider community around this location and of course also for the community in general, as well as for PDI-P cadres who happen to be active in the PDI-P party school just opposite," added the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Megawati also said that it is hoped that this mosque will not only be used as a place of worship. He wanted the At-Taufiq Mosque to be used for various social activities to promote Pancasila.

Not only that, the mosque which is named after her late husband, Taufiq Kiemas, is expected to be an example for other mosque buildings that highlight tradition. Moreover, this mosque takes Minang customs.

"The At-Taufiq Mosque was made with a special design, as I said, so that if we look at it, it feels like we are in a West Sumatran house with very Islamic writings," he said.

Megawati wanted President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who was present at the inauguration with the first lady, Iriana, to pray at the At-Taufiq Mosque.

"I hope that you and your family can pray in this mosque with the other attendees to all pray for the deceased to be accepted by Allah," said Megawati.

For information, the construction of the At-taufiq Mosque was carried out on June 8 2018 then construction began in December 2018. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this mosque was only completed in July 2020.

This mosque was built on an area of 1,800 square meters with a capacity of about 400-500 worshipers. The concept of the At-Taufiq Mosque building is taken from the concept of Progressive Nusantara Islam, which is in accordance with the third Trisakti Bung Karno, namely having an Indonesian culture.

Not only that, the building of this mosque also adapts the customs of Palembang, South Sumatra, which is the area of origin of the late Taufiq Kiemas, Megawati's husband. Then, this mosque shows elements of Minang customs and also contains party elements.
