South Korea Expansion To Bobby Nasution's City, Ready To Bring Y-Mart To Medan

JAKARTA - Mayor of Medan, Bobby Nasution welcomed the plan of the Government of Gwangju, Republic of South Korea to expand its business to open a Y-Mart branch in Medan City.

"Thank you Gwangju Government and Y-Mart who intend to invest in Medan City. I hope we can exchange trade information, both in Korea and in Medan City," Bobby said in Medan, Tuesday, June 7.

Bobby conveyed this, after receiving the Gwangju Government led by the Director of the International Cooperation Division of Gwangju City Jeong Chang Kyoon discussing the twin city cooperation program in the economic field and Y-Mart's desire to open a branch in this area.

The mayor hopes that Y-Mart will be able to market products from local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), thereby driving the economy and increasing consumption.

"But keep in mind that Medan City still has traditional markets that are popular with the public, and this must be preserved. But retail market development needs to be done," said Bobby.

The mayor also wants the investment plans of the Gwangju Government and Y-Mart to be focused in the city center, and not to interfere with the sustainability of the 53 traditional markets in Medan City.

Bobby promised that the Medan City Government would help with licensing for investing in the retail sector while still meeting the terms and conditions that apply in this area.

"I hope that when Y-Mart invests in Medan City, MSME products can enter Y-Mart so that it supports the economy of local residents," explained Bobby.

Director of the International Cooperation Division of Gwangju City, Jeong Chang Kyoon, admitted that the cooperation that had existed so far between the Gwangju Government and the Medan City Government would continue to grow.

"We hope that the cooperation between Y-Mart and Medan City will go well. In addition, we want to import local products from Medan City to Gwangju," he explained.
