As A Suspect, Abdul Qadir Baraja Is Threatened With 20 Years In Prison

JAKARTA - The leader of the Khilafatul Muslimin, Abdul Qadir Baraja, has been named a suspect in the alleged case of spreading false news. In this case, he is suspected of having multiple articles and is threatened with a maximum imprisonment of 20 years.

"So, (Abdul Qadir Baraja, ed) is threatened with a minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 20 years in prison," said the Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes E. Zulpan, to reporters, Tuesday, June 7.

This criminal sanction is because Abdul Qadir Baraja is suspected of being under Article 59 paragraph 4 in conjunction with Article 82 paragraph 2 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 16 of 2017 concerning Ormas.

Then, investigators also use Article 14 paragraph 1 and paragraph 2 and/or Article 15 of Law Number 1 of 1946 concerning Criminal Law Regulations.

The use of this article is because Abdul Qadir Baraja who is the highest leader of the Khilafatul Muslimin must be responsible for the actions of its members.

For example, provoking by spreading false news. The goal is to worsen the image of the legitimate government.

"Activities that are inseparable from a provocation that is spoken with hate speech and fake news that is carried out to vilify the legitimate government that currently exists in our country," he said.

Then, Khilafatul Muslimin also tried to offer people to replace the state ideology with the lure of prosperity and welfare.

In fact, it violates the rules because it is contrary to Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution.

"So in this case, we Polda Metro Jaya are not only investigating convoys, but also the actions of mass organizations that are against the state ideology, namely Pancasila," said Zulpan.

Abdul Qadir Baraja was arrested in the Lampung area. He is known to be the highest leader of the Khilafatul Muslimin group.

In addition, Abdul Qadir Baraja is also known to be a convict of terrorism cases. Because, he was involved with the terrorist group the Islamic State of Indonesia (NII).
