DPR Has A Role In Pressing The 2024 Election Budget To IDR 76.6 Trillion

JAKARTA - The DPR gave a number of messages regarding the implementation of the 2024 General Election to the KPU through hearings conducted by the leaders of the two institutions. This is seen as an effort by the DPR in supervising the people's money which will be used in the general election, the stages of which will begin next week.

The meeting between DPR leadership and KPU commissioners was held on Monday (6/6) yesterday. The chairman of the DPR, Puan Maharani, who led the hearing, highlighted a number of things, including the confirmation that the 2024 General Election will run as scheduled, on February 14, 2024 to be exact.

"The DPR through Mrs. Puan as the Chair of the DPR with the firm stated that the 2024 Election will run on time. This statement is a step that should be applauded, because it ensures that there will be no postponement or postponement of the election," said Silvanus Alvin, Lecturer of the Faculty of Communication at Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN), Tuesday, June 7.

Alvin also appreciated Puan's statement requesting that the 2024 election budget be carried out effectively and efficiently. According to him, the message is in accordance with the function of the DPR regarding budgeting oversight.

“DPR has demonstrated its function as an institution in charge of supervising people's money. The implementation of the 2024 simultaneous general election costs a lot of money, therefore the concern and attention of the DPR towards the KPU is very important," said Alvin in his statement.

The KPU previously proposed a budget of Rp. 86.26 trillion for the 2024 Election. However, because it received input so that the election budget was rationalized so that it would not be too large, including from the DPR, the KPU finally revised the proposed budget of Rp. 76.6 trillion.

The DPR approved the 2024 election budget after the KPU rationalized the budget. Alvin said the DPR had contributed to the efficiency of the 2024 election budget.

"The agreed election funds are proof of the good faith of the DPR, which has been involved in rationalizing the budget from Rp. 86 trillion to Rp. 76 trillion, but on the other hand it also accommodates the needs of the KPU for the success of the election," added the lecturer at the Distance Learning Study Program at UMN. .

In a meeting with the KPU, Puan also reminded the election organizers to intensify the socialization of the implementation of the 5-year democratic party. It is hoped that public awareness to channel their voting rights will increase in the upcoming elections.

"DPR shows a form of concern for the people by paying attention to election socialization and election simulations," said Alvin.

This master's graduate from the University of Leicester, England assessed that the socialization and implementation of election simulations were quite important. Moreover, said Alvin, the 2024 general election will be followed by many young voters.

“Socialization is really needed because in the 2024 election, almost 60 percent of the voters are millennials and gen-z. So this counseling is very useful for educating novice voters,” said the young lecturer.

As is known, the Chairperson of the DPR, Puan Maharani, has confirmed that the election will take place according to schedule. He also reminded about the effectiveness of the 2024 election budget.

"The 2024 election budget must be carried out effectively and efficiently and maximized according to needs since the start of the election stage which will begin according to the existing schedule, namely June 14, 2022," said Puan when meeting with KPU commissioners at the DPR Building, Jakarta, yesterday.

Puan also emphasized the accuracy and updating of voter data to be carried out in an accountable manner. It is said that the government and election organizers must ensure the ease of public access to voter data so that they can exercise their voting rights.

"The KPU should carry out socialization to increase public awareness to report changes in population data and report if there are errors in voter data," said Puan.
