JAKARTA - A mother stabbed her own son to death after he was caught alone with his girlfriend.

Lucivania Lopes sticks a knife into the chest of her 21 year old son, Jose Carlos Da Silva Junior. The child attacks the mother's lover who is the same age as him.

The 37-year-old woman is drinking with her young boyfriend, 22, at her home in the municipality of Mutunopolis, in the Brazilian state of Goias, on the evening of Friday, October 17. Jose lives with his grandmother and visits his mother when he sees them together.

Claiming to have killed her son, Lucivania claims to be defending herself. She said her son was angry when he saw her with a young 'toy'.

"The woman and her partner spent the day drinking. According to her, her son came, there was a fight and he (his son) tried to attack his partner," said police chief Andre Medeiros as quoted by The Sun, Wednesday.

"She (Lucivania) was among them, and said she was also attacked. She said that as a result, she took a knife in self-defense, and accidentally stabbed her chest."

The victim was found by local residents and taken to hospital, local media reported. Residents also reportedly called the police, who then arrested the mother at the scene. Meanwhile, her partner ran away and was chased by the police.

The knife was also missing, reports The Sun. Lucivania could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
