Getting To Know Eril, Ridwan Kamil's 22-year-old Son Drifts Away In Switzerland

JAKARTA - The whereabouts of Emmeril Kahn Mumtadz alias Eril, the son of West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil is still a question mark after being swept away in the Aare River, Bern, Switzerland on Thursday, May 26, local time.

Eril was swept away by the current of the Aare River while swimming with her sister Camilla Laetitia Azzahra, and a friend. While his mother Atalia Praratya was on the river side.

After the incident, Eril was declared missing. Ridwan Kamil, who knew about this, flew to Switzerland from a working visit in England.

Based on the documentation obtained from the Indonesian Embassy in Switzerland, Ridwan Kamil was seen directly monitoring the search for Eril in the Aare River on Sunday 29 May.

In the search for Eril, a number of search methods and technologies were deployed by a SAR team consisting of police, maritime police and firefighters.

The local SAR team used the boat search method using binoculars to monitor the underwater situation. They also use boats and sensors capable of detecting up to a depth of 3 meters.

Search technology using surveillance drones is also used. The drone flew low along the river bank.

Erwin Muniruzaman, Ridwan Kamil's older brother, said that the family is sincere with whatever happened to Eril's disappearance in the Aare River.

"Today's search has been completed, then resumed the next day. From the family side, whatever will be the destiny of Eril," Erwin said in a written statement from the West Java Communications and Information Office, Wednesday, June 1.

On Thursday, June 2, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Switzerland conveyed that the local authorities had changed the status of the search for Eril. From the original status of missing person or searching for missing person to drowned person or looking for someone who has drowned.

However, until now the SAR Team is still looking for the whereabouts of Eril who was swept away.

Eril is known to be a cheerful teenager. He is the fruit of Ridwan Kamil's marriage to Atlia Praratya.

He was born in New York, United States, on June 25, 1999. When his screams were first heard in the world, his father was studying for a Master's degree in Urban Design at the University of California, Berkeley.

As an older sister, Eril is close to her two younger siblings Camilla Laetitia Azzahra and Arkana Aidan Misbach. The three of them often go on vacation together.

Little Eril is known to be friendly and intelligent. His parents placed him at the Darul Hikam Islamic Boarding School, Bandung, West Java, from elementary to junior high school. After that, Eril continued to SMAN 3 Bandung in 2014-2017.

Taking a science major when he was in high school did not make Eril a teenager who was only close to books. He was active in school involved in extracurricular classical music, to football.

In 2017, Eril continued his education at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). If his father majored in Architectural Engineering at ITB, Eril chose Mechanical Engineering.

While studying at ITB, he was given the opportunity to serve as Assistant to the Mechatronics Laboratory, Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, ITB for three months.

In student organizations, Eril is also involved in the ITB Mechanical Student Association. It was noted that Ridwan Kamil's eldest son had held positions including Secretary General of Elections, Field Commander and Head of the Intracampus Division.

Eril then flew to Switzerland with his family. He looked for a university to continue his master's education. But unfortunately, until now his whereabouts are unknown.
