Examination Of Soenarko's Ex Danjen Kopassus, Investigators Asking Weapons To US

JAKARTA - Former Kopassus Commander General (Danjen) Maj. Gen. TNI (Purn) Soenarko is undergoing an investigation into the case of illegal weapon possession. During the interrogation, investigators were said to have also mentioned the Coalition for Action to Save Indonesia (US).

Soenarko's lawyer, Fery Firman Nurwahyu, said that during the eight-hour interrogation, investigators questioned his client with 28 questions.

"(The initial question) was about weapons. For example, the origin of weapons," said Fery to VOI, Tuesday, October 20.

Investigators according to Fery also asked about the figure who sent the firearms. Soenarko was previously suspected of smuggling senpi from Aceh.

"Pak Narko (Soenarko) clearly doesn't know him. The point is just about the details of the investigation," he said.

But at the end of the investigation, investigators continued, Fery questioned Soenarko's involvement or relationship with US. However, the retired officer emphasized that he had no connection.

According to Fery, his client only had a relationship with Gatot Nurmantyo. That is because of their backgrounds as former TNI soldiers.

"Investigators had asked about the connection with US. Pak Soenarko had nothing to do with it," he said.

In this case, Soenarko was suspected of smuggling firearms from Aceh to be used in the May 22 riots which were considered to have the potential to disrupt national security.

Soenarko had been in the detention center (Rutan) POM Guntur, South Jakarta for some time. Until finally he was released after TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto volunteered as a guarantee for the suspension of Soenarko's detention.
