BPBD Asks Residents To Be Wary Of Mount Awu In Sangihe Still On Alert Status

SANGIHE - Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Sangihe Islands Regency, Wandu Labesi asked residents in the area to remain vigilant regarding the status of Mount Awu which is still on standby (level 3).

"Currently, the status of Mount Awu is still on alert level 3, so residents are asked to remain vigilant," said Wandu Labesi in Tahuna, North Sulawesi, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, May 31.

According to him, with the status of Mount Awu, residents are prohibited from moving too close to the top of the volcano.

"We still prohibit residents from doing activities in the area about 3.5 kilometers from the peak of Mount Awu," he said.

According to him, in the current level 3 condition, the Sangihe BPBD has asked residents to carry out activities as usual while still increasing their vigilance.

"We urge the public to carry out activities as usual outside the 3.5 km area from the peak of Mount Awu while remaining vigilant," he said.

He also asked residents not to trust various information that cannot be justified, apart from the government.

"The government will gradually provide information to the public on the status of Mount Awu, including steps that must be taken by the community," he said.
