KPU Prepares A Budget Of Rp. 14.4 Trillion To Anticipate The Second Round Of The 2024 Presidential Election

JAKARTA - Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia Hasyim Asy'ari said that his party has prepared a special budget in anticipation of the second round of the 2024 Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections (Pilpres).

The budget for the second round of the presidential election was prepared at Rp. 14.4 trillion or 18.89 percent of the total budget for the 2024 election. Hasyim said that the implementation of the second round of the presidential election needed to be prepared.

Bearing in mind, there are certain conditions that must be met by presidential and vice presidential candidates to be appointed as the elected candidate pair.

"In anticipation of the second round of presidential elections, to be able to determine the winner, it must exceed half the number of valid national votes. Then more than half the number of provinces in Indonesia must win at least 20 percent for each province. If it does not fulfill the constitution, then the KPU anticipates that," said Hasyim at the KPU RI office, Monday, May 30.

Meanwhile, if in its implementation there are pairs of candidates who have met the requirements to be declared the winner of the presidential election, then the budget will not be used.

"Let's say that it doesn't happen (the second round of presidential elections), then this figure of 14.4 trillion is not used or not spent," said Hasyim.

Meanwhile, in the implementation of the 2024 General Election, the KPU has allocated a budget of Rp. 76,656,312,294,000 (Rp 76.6 trillion). This budget is used for all stages, from 2022 to 2024.

The chairman of the Indonesian KPU, Hasyim Asy'ari, explained that the political contestation budget in 2024 is divided into stages of Rp. 63.4 trillion or 82.71 percent of the total budget. Meanwhile, the rest is for stage support of Rp. 13.2 trillion or 17.29 percent of the total budget.

As is known, the provisions for the second round of presidential elections are regulated in Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections. In Article 416 Paragraph (1), it is stated that the selected pair of candidates is the pair of candidates who get more than 50 percent of the votes in the Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections with at least 20 percent of the votes in each province spread over more than half the number of provinces in Indonesia. .

Then, in Article 416 Paragraph (2), it is stated that in the event that no pair of candidates is elected, the 2 pairs of candidates who get the first and second most votes are re-elected by the people directly in the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Election.
