KPU: 2024 Election Stages Begin Mid-June 2022

BANTUL - The General Election Commission of Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, said that the 2024 General Elections implementation phase began in mid-June this year.

"If it is drawn from Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections, the election stage begins 20 months before polling day. If the polling day is on February 14, 2024, the election stage begins June 14, 2022," said the Head of the Bantul Regency KPU, Didik Joko Nugroho was quoted by Antara, Friday, May 27.

Because of that, he said, the election management institutions in the regions have so far not begun to carry out the stages, or are still waiting for technical instructions, the provisions of which are in the KPU regulations.

According to him, the 2024 election stage in 2022 is also carried out at the central level rather than at the regional level. After coming from the center, a schedule of stages will be drawn up as a reference for KPU in the regions.

"Indeed, most of the stages in 2022 are still at the central level, although this year there has been verification of political parties. So, in terms of stages, there will be verification of political parties in 2022. However, we are waiting for the KPU to determine the stages and schedule," he said.

The verification stage for political parties, he continued, is to fulfill the requirements to become participants in the 2024 General Election. This is done 18 months before polling day.

"There is no schedule yet. However, as far as we can tell from the point of view of the verification stage for political parties, it is carried out 18 months before polling day. If the polling day is in February, in August the verification of political parties has started," he said.

Touching on the budget for organizing the 2024 General Election, he said that it would be fully borne by the central government with the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN).

"If the budget plan is for the election, the budget is purely the state budget. This is different from the regional head election. We have been asked to draw up an election budget plan," he said.
