The President said Buya Syafii was the best cadre of Muhammadiyah who always voiced about diversity and tolerance among religious people.

"He also always conveys the importance of Pancasila as the glue of the nation," said President Jokowi.

After the final honors ceremony, thousands of mourners immediately accompanied the departure of Buya Syafii's body to the Husnul Khotimah Cemetery, Donomulyo Hamlet, Kapanewon Nanggulan, Kulon Progo Regency.

Buya Syafii Maarif passed away on Friday at 10.15 WIB at the PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping Hospital, Sleman, Yogyakarta Special Region.
