11-Year-Old Boy Who Disappeared In Ciliwung River Found Dead Under A Bridge

JAKARTA – Ibas (11), the boy who disappeared from drowning in the Ciliwung River, Cipayung, Depok, has been found by the Rescue Basarnas personnel from the technical implementation unit (UPT) of the Jakarta SAR Office, Friday, May 27, afternoon.

Head of the Disaster Management Division of the Depok City Fire and Rescue Service, Denny Romulo, said that Ibas was found dead under the Panus Bridge, Depok.

"At around 10.30 WIB at Panus Bridge, the victim was caught in a rock," said Denny Romulo in a written statement, Friday, May 27.

After being found, Ibas' body was immediately taken to the funeral home in Kampung Baru, Jalan Program 1 Dipo, Cipayung, Depok.

"The body was brought to his house. The search for today is closed," he said.

Previously, Ibas was reported missing in the Ciliwung River on Thursday, May 26, afternoon. The victim is known to lack the ability to swim so that he eventually drowned and was swept away by the current of the Ciliwung River.

The head of the Jakarta SAR Office as the SAR Mission Coordinator (SMC) in the SAR operation, Hendra Sudirman, said that after receiving the report, his party dispatched rescue personnel to the scene.

"We are coordinating with joint SAR elements who are already in the field and carry out SAR operations on victims," Hendra said when confirmed by VOI, Friday, May 27.
