JAKARTA - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil immediately flew to Switzerland, following the news that his son Emmeril Khan Mumtadz, who is also known as Eril, had disappeared while swimming in a river in Bern, Switzerland.
In a written statement, the family represented by Elpi Nazmuzaman said that at the time of the incident Ridwan Kamil was in England on government activities abroad with a delegation from the West Java Provincial Government.
"Ridwan Kamil immediately followed to Switzerland after receiving the news of the accident and is currently meeting with his family there," the statement said.
As previously reported, Eril, who was in Switzerland looking for a school to continue his master's education, was swept away by the current while swimming in the Aaree River in Bern. The weather conditions were clear at the time of the incident.
"It is true that our brother's first child, Ridwan Kamil, whose name is Emmeril Khan Mumtadz or commonly called Eril, experienced an accident in Bern, Switzerland on May 26, 2022 at noon Swiss time," the statement read.
"Chronologically, Eril swam in the Aaree River, Bern with his sister and friends. When he wanted to rise to the surface, Eril was dragged by a fairly swift river current which had previously received help from his friend. The incident occurred at noon in Switzerland with sunny weather conditions," he explained.
Swiss authorities plan to continue the search today, after searching for approximately six hours yesterday (local time).
"We are grateful for the attention and assistance from the Indonesian embassy in Switzerland and the local police who are continuously trying to find Emmeril's whereabouts," the family wrote, adding that they pray for Eril to be found safe and reunited with his family.
