7-year-old Boy Who Disappeared In The Malili River In South Sulawesi Was Found Dead

SULSEL - A seven-year-old boy named Fatin who was reported to have drowned on Wednesday May 25 was found dead in the Malili River, Wewangiru Village, East Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi (South Sulawesi) on Thursday 26 May.

Head of Basarnas Kendari Aris Sofingi said the victim was found by the joint SAR team on the second day of the operation to search for victims.

"The victim was found at 5:59 pm by the joint SAR team, dead after two days of searching," he said in Kendari, quoted from Antara, Thursday, May 26.

He said that the victim was found floating about 4.5 kilometers southwest of the sinking location.

"Furthermore, the victim was evacuated and handed over to his family at 19.18 WITA," said Aris.

The search for victims involved Rescue Team personnel from the East Luwu SAR Alert Unit, East Luwu BPBD, East Luwu Koramil, Malili Damkar, Mori Diving Club, VEST, Batar Guru Rescue, the local community, and the victim's family.

The victim was previously reported to have said goodbye to his mother on Wednesday, May 25, to go bathe in the Malili River with his friends.

However, the victim did not return home. When his friends were asked about the whereabouts of the victim, they were afraid and confused to answer so that the family concluded that the victim was thought to have drowned in the river.

The incident was also reported to Basarnas by an employee of the East Luwu BPBD named Rimal to conduct a search, until he was found but in a state of death.

"With the discovery of the victim, the SAR operation is declared complete and closed, all elements involved are returned to their respective units," he concluded.
