Acting Mayor Of Ambon City Starts Task Of Checking Garbage Piles At The Disturbing Mardika Market

AMBON - The acting Mayor of Ambon City, Bodewin Wattimena, started his task by fixing the handling of waste, including the garbage that had piled up in the Mardika Market area.

"My first task after I was appointed was to fix the waste problem, namely to monitor the process of cleaning up piles of garbage which according to information from the public had not been transported by a garbage truck belonging to the Ambon City Waste and Environment Service," he said, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, May 25.

"The buried garbage has not been transported for five days due to technical problems experienced in the waste cleaning process in Ambon City. However, with the conditions we are seeing today, with quick follow-up, we hope that landfills will no longer occur," he said.

He emphasized the importance of community participation in waste management.

"We need the support of the community to dispose of waste on time at the designated TPS. We from the Ambon City Government guarantee that we will transport the garbage that is thrown away by the community in its place according to the time and schedule made," he said.

Bodewin stated that so far efforts to handle waste in Ambon City have been constrained by the lack of a waste transport fleet.

The city government will arrange for the deployment of a garbage collection fleet to get around these limitations.

"The volume of waste is not the same at each location. If the volume (at one location) is small, the fleet can be diverted to those with high volumes of waste. Technically, we will rearrange the waste car lanes," he said.
