The Development Of The La Nina Phenomenon Continues To Be Monitored

JAKARTA - The Palu Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) continues to monitor the development of the natural phenomenon of La Nina in the Central Sulawesi region as well as its influence on weather, which the public needs to be aware of.

"We continue to monitor and inform all parties about the weather conditions in the Central Sulawesi region," said Afandi Nugraha, one of the coordinators of the BMKG data processing unit Sis Aljufri Airport, Palu, as reported by Antara , Monday, October 19.

He said that during the October 2020 period, a number of areas in Central Sulawesi were rained with increasing intensity and in the future, the potential for heavy rainfall is still highly likely to occur in this region.

Therefore, his party reminded all districts in this province to increase awareness of extreme weather conditions.

"The government and society, even we all remain vigilant, because according to experience, during extreme weather conditions, various natural disasters such as floods and landslides usually occur," he said.

The Central BMKG previously reported that the peak of the La Nina phenomenon will occur in December 2020 to February 2021 so it needs to be watched out.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Donggala Regency, Akris, said routine weather information was obtained from the BMKG.

The impact of La Nina in Donggala Regency has resulted in natural disasters of flooding in two sub-districts, namely Central Banawa and South Banawa on October 15, 2020. Flash floods inundated at least 1,200 houses in Central Banawa and 700 housing units in South Banawa.

In addition, it has washed away a number of residents' houses on the banks of the river, several landslides and also a number of bridges were damaged and one of them was completely inaccessible.

However, he said, the flood disaster did not cause any casualties, except for material losses which have not been identified.
