Geisz Chalifah Claims Formula E Is Very Profitable For Ancol

JAKARTA - Commissioner of PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol Geisz Chalifah claims Ancol will gain quite a large profit from the Formula E racing event on June 4.

"Ancol has greatly benefited," said Geisz when met in the Thousand Islands, Tuesday, May 24.

Geisz said that the use of the East Ancol land as a circuit was profitable because there was a rental payment from the BUMD PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) as the organizer of Formula E.

In a sense, the use of the Formula E circuit applies a business to business scheme. Jakpro pays rent for three years of organizing the race. After that, the circuit will belong to Ancol. However, Geisz did not know the details of the circuit rental agreement.

"This is a normal business because Jakpro pays (land rent). They do it periodically for several months a year. They don't use it throughout the year. After that, we manage it. So, we make it simple but it doesn't violate the rules. It's both profitable," he explained. .

Furthermore, Geisz said he was grateful that DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan chose Ancol as the location for the Formula E circuit. Because, according to him, the permanently paved Formula E circuit could still be used for other races and concert performances.

"In Jakarta, what doesn't work? In the past, Jakarta didn't have a circuit, now there are. Then, there are a lot of concerts in Jakarta. If there are circuits, (concerts) will be even more," said Geisz.

Moreover, the distance between the Formula E circuit and the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) is quite close. Geisz assumes that this condition will invite the interest of a party to hold an event at the two locations.

"Imagine, no, Pak Anies left two places. One JIS, one circuit. After watching football, then there was a concert event on the circuit. All that's left is a suspension bridge. These are just our ideas, initiatives," he said.
