Because Of A Leaking 3 Kg Gas Cylinder, One House In Kramat Jati Catches Fire

JAKARTA - A fire occurred in a residential unit on Jalan Batu Ampar 3, RT 01/04, Number 3, Batu Ampar Village, Kramat Jati District, on Monday, 23 evening. The fire originated from the leak of a 3 kilogram subsidized gas cylinder which is usually used for cooking.

"Obviously the origin of the fire came from a gas cylinder. After my house, the ceiling, my room was made of plywood. It was only the second floor that burned down, my house. The one downstairs (shops) was safe," said Salim, the owner of the house, to reporters on Monday, May 23, evening.

Salim explained that the incident began when he was reported by his son who saw that the fire had grown in his house, which was located on the second floor of a shop-house type building.

"My son saw the fire and immediately reported it to me. I happened to be hanging out at Indomaret. When I got up, the fire had already grown," he said.

Salim said, the growing fire had burned the kitchen table in his house. The child, who had saved valuable documents, was immediately forbidden by Salim to do so.

Because the fire has started to devour the contents of the house, it is feared that if the child focuses on saving documents, his life is in danger.

"My son saved the file, the file was taken down, when I was about to go up again I said 'no need, no need, hurry down!' The fire has grown, I don't even dare," he said.

Salim added that there were no casualties in the fire. However, material losses are estimated at tens of millions of rupiah.

"There were no casualties. The material losses were around Rp. 60 million," he said.

The fire was extinguished only after officers from the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) arrived at the fire site.

Head of East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept. Head of Sub-dept. Gatot Sulaeman said that his party received a report of an incident at the location at around 20.40 WIB.

"We have deployed 8 units of fire engines accompanied by 40 personnel to extinguish the fire," said Gatot through his statement.

The fire started at 20:44 WIB and ended at 21:07 WIB. The process went smoothly. There were no fatalities.

"The area of the object that burned was approximately 200 square meters, it's a semi-permanent building. The fire was caused by a gas cylinder leak, allegedly while cooking, suddenly the gas cylinder leaked and grabbed onto the stove table," he concluded.
