Labor Union Asks Governor Of West Sumatra To Sanction Employers Not To Give Workers Rights

PADANG - The Confederation of All-Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI) of West Sumatra (West Sumatra) asked the Governor of West Sumatra to impose sanctions on employers who do not give workers rights.

Head of the West Sumatra KSPSI Regional Leadership Council (DPD), Arsukman Edi in Padang, Monday, May 23, said his party asked the Governor through the Manpower and Transmigration Service (Disnakertrans) to increase supervision of entrepreneurs.

"We see that there are still many statutory obligations that have been made but are not implemented by entrepreneurs," he said, quoted by Antara.

According to him, many of the company's obligations were not implemented, starting from BPJS, payment of wages according to the minimum wage, and other obligations. KSPSI asks that companies that do not fulfill these obligations are given strict sanctions.

“We ask for justice so that the rogue company is given sanctions so that there is a deterrent effect. We see if the wrong worker can be fired on the same day, while if the company does not carry out its obligations, it continues to this day," he said.

In addition, there should be no favoritism or discrimination in enforcing the rules. Fair rules must be applied to both workers and employers. He also did not ask for much, just as stated in the legislation.

“If the supervisor from the Manpower and Transmigration Office comes usually only to meet with businessmen, they have received information and then go home. While there are obligations that are left behind, namely meeting the head of the work unit at the company level, that is our hope for the future, "he said.

In addition, KSPSI also requested that the West Sumatra Provincial DPRD and the Governor through the Manpower and Transmigration Office execute recommendation No. 563/402/HI-Was/2022 so that the Company PT. Kencana Sawit Indonesia (Wilmar Group) pays wages for workers who carry out a legal strike in accordance with statutory regulations.

"This is a form of corporate delinquency. We ask the Governor and the DPRD to execute the recommendation, so that the company PT Kencana Sawit Indonesia pays the wages of workers, the recommendation has been there but until now it has not been implemented," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Commission II of the West Sumatra DPRD, Mockhlasin, said that his party would supervise the implementation of the demands, especially for the West Sumatra Disnkartrans. He is sure that the West Sumatra Manpower and Transmigration Office will fulfill the demands of the West Sumatra KSPSI.

“Previously, we have also called the relevant agencies regarding this issue, such as plantations, land, and manpower. Therefore, the function of the DPRD will be effective and carry out supervision properly," he said.

The West Sumatra DPRD will also discuss increasing the Manpower and Transmigration Office budget to supervise entrepreneurs who do not carry out their obligations.

Previously, dozens of workers who were members of the West Sumatra KSPSI took a walk on Jalan Khatib Sulaiman, then ended up at the West Sumatra DPRD Building. The West Sumatra KSPSI then held an audience with Commission II of the West Sumatra DPRD.
