Korlantas Polri Targets All Vehicles Using White Plates In 5 Years

JAKARTA - The Traffic Corps (Korlantas) of the Police targets that within 5 years all vehicles in Indonesia will start using white plates with black numbers.

"It will change later in 2027, everything will be white. Because it's been five years," said the National Police Korlantas Regident Director, Brigadier General Yusri Yunus in a statement quoted by Antara, Monday, May 23.

Brigadier General Yusri explained that within 5 years there were several vehicles that had become a priority to replace black plates with white ones.

For example, new vehicles, vehicles entering a five-year tax extension, or vehicles being transferred, and moving regions.

According to him, the change in the color of vehicle number plates is not carried out simultaneously, but is carried out in stages starting in the middle of this year for new vehicles and vehicles whose 5-year tax period has expired. Therefore, the public is advised not to worry if they have not used a white plate.

"It's okay (if you still use the black plate)," he said.

This change in the color of the vehicle number plates is carried out to support the implementation of the effectiveness of camera-based or ETLE electronic ticketing because the black base color plate has the potential to be misidentified or difficult to read by the ETLE camera which is the supervisor on the road.

This policy is contained in Indonesian National Police Regulation (Perpol) Number 7 of 2021 concerning Registration and Identification of Motorized Vehicles which replaces Perpol Number 5 of 2012 concerning Vehicle Registration and Identification of Motorized Vehicles.

In Article 45 paragraph (1) letter a it is explained that the TNKB (motor vehicle number sign) will later be colored on a white base with black writing for individual vehicles, legal entities, representatives of foreign countries, or international agencies.

Then it is stated that the yellow base plate is written in black for public vehicles, the red base plate is written in white for government agency vehicles, and the green base plate is written in black for vehicles in free trade areas that receive import duty exemption facilities and are based on the provisions of laws and regulations.

So far, he said. the auction process for the procurement of white plates has been completed. Illumination of the white base plate will be carried out in stages in June 2022.

Yusri emphasized that the change in the color of the motorized vehicle number plates would not impose costs on the public. People only need to pay 5-year tax as usual.

"There is no (cost) the same, if the black plate comes out, no fee. It's just like a black plate," he said.

The change in the basic color of the TNKB or vehicle number plates by the Korlantas Polri has been formulated and planned since 2014 together with ETLE.
