Indonesian Contingent Finishes In The Top 3 Of The 2021 SEA Games, Puan Maharani Salutes The Red And White Team

JAKARTA - The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, congratulated the SEA Games 2021 Indonesia contingent who came out as third place. In this event, Indonesia managed to win 69 gold, 92 silver and 81 bronze.

In the Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi Vietnam, the Red and White Team also improved the rankings from the previous same event in the Philippines.

"The achievements made by the athletes and the entire team are extraordinary and certainly become the pride of the nation. Kudos to the Red and White Team," said Puan Maharani in a written statement, Monday, May 23.

Puan said she was happy and proud because for the first time, Indonesia managed to get gold for basketball after beating the Philippines.

"At the SEA Games this time, we succeeded in making history because for the first time since participating in the SEA Games in 1977, the Indonesian basketball team was able to get a gold medal," said Puan.

“Moreover, Indonesia managed to beat a country that excels in basketball. Now the Indonesian Men's Basketball National Team has been taken into account at the Southeast Asian level," he continued.

In addition, Puan assessed, the Red and White team should also be proud because they managed to win from their eternal rival in the SEA Games, namely Malaysia. According to him, nothing is impossible to achieve with hard work and the spirit of mutual cooperation.

"We are also grateful that the Indonesian team was able to achieve the target of getting into the top three. All athletes have shown their best performance," said Puan.

The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture also thanked the athletes, the Indonesian Contingent's Chief demission (CdM) team for the 2021 SEA Games, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia), the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), staff of the Indonesian Embassy for Vietnam, as well as all relevant stakeholders who have worked as well as possible so that Indonesia can be in the top three positions at the 2021 SEA Games.

"And of course for the Indonesian people who have provided support to our SEA Games contingent, both directly and praying from home," said Puan.

The chairman of the PDIP DPP hopes that the success of the Red and White team at the SEA Games will make Indonesia more recognized in world sports events. He advised that the success at the 2021 Vietnam SEA Games be used as a booster of enthusiasm so that the Indonesian national team can improve their achievements in the future.

"Because this success is the success of the entire Indonesian nation. The Indonesian national team must show more and more achievements in the upcoming sporting events and continue to make the nation proud," concluded Puan Maharani.
