SURABAYA - Mayor of Surabaya Eri Cahyadi explained the concept of economic recovery through a labor-intensive program after carrying out Friday prayers at the Nurul Iman Margorejo Indah Mosque, Surabaya City.

"Currently, many municipal government programs are carried out through labor intensive activities, ranging from training, product marketing, to providing capital assistance to continue to empower Surabaya MSMEs," said Eri Cahyadi as quoted by Antara, Friday, May 20.

He explained that currently the assets of the former Village Cash Land (BTKD) are maximized and managed by low-income people (MBR). According to Eri, in agriculture, they are trained to manage agricultural land and are given the seeds by the municipal government, then the produce is then sold for their income.

Meanwhile, non-agricultural ones, continued Eri, later the BTKD assets will also be used for car washes, laundry, batik production houses and others.

"God willing, this year, this May I will use all the assets of the Surabaya City Government for the work of thousands of MBR who have not worked, so hopefully no one will be unemployed again in Surabaya," he said.

Mayor Eri Cahyadi also hopes for Surabaya residents to report to the local village head or sub-district head if they encounter relatives or neighbors who are MBR and have not worked and need help. The report is very important to help the relative or neighbor.

On the other hand, Eri Cahyadi also asked all city government officials, especially those in the kelurahan and sub-districts to always come down to look for residents in need. In fact, he also asked the city government officials to follow the example of the four caliphs who were companions of the Prophet Muhammad.

"So, apart from Prophet Muhammad SAW, we have to emulate the four caliphs, namely Abu Bakr Assidiq, Umar bin Khattab, Usman bin Affan, and Ali bin Abi Talib," he said.

Eri Cahyadi invites the congregation to pray Friday to imitate one of his friends, namely Umar bin Khattab who goes around carrying wheat every day to be distributed to the poor.

"Essentially, I always emphasize to my city government friends to always come down, not just sit behind a desk," said Eri Cahyadi.

During the Friday Prayers, the former Governor of East Java, Imam Utomo, was also present. Even Imam Utomo also invited Eri to eat together and discuss after Friday prayers at a restaurant close to the Nurul Iman Mosque.
