BENGKULU - The Bengkulu Province Environment and Forestry Service (DLHK) said that the Bengkulu River had been contaminated with Escherichia Coli bacteria.

Acting Head of the Bengkulu Province Environment and Forestry Service (DLHK), Safnizar said the polluted condition was based on the Test Result Certificate (SHU) from the laboratory.

"The results of the DLHK integrated team regarding the condition of the Bengkulu River experiencing pollution that exceeds the threshold for the type of E-Coli," said Safnizar in Bengkulu, Antara, Friday, May 20.

The Escherichia Coli bacteria found in the Bengkulu River come from human, animal and garbage waste that people throw into the river. Apart from human behavior, the contamination of the Bengkulu River is also caused by chemicals such as pesticides and others.

Therefore, he appealed to all people in Bengkulu Province not to litter, especially into the Bengkulu River.

Previously, based on the inspection index, the Bengkulu River was polluted and was categorized as moderate.

The samples examined came from the upstream of the river, precisely in Penanding Village, Karang Tinggi District, then at the middle point to be precise in Pulau Panggung Village and Kembang Seri Village, Talang Empat District, Central Bengkulu Regency and the last point was at the intake of the Regional Drinking Water Company (PDAM) Bengkulu City. .
