Former Danjen Kopassus Soenarko Cancels Questioning In Connection With Last Year's Illegal Senpi Case

JAKARTA - Former Danjen Kopassus, Maj. Gen. (ret) Soenarko canceled his summons for questioning at the Police Criminal Investigation Unit today. Soenarko was originally investigated in the case of possession of illegal firearms which made him a suspect.

Soenarko's lawyer, Fery Firman Nurwahyu, said that his client canceled his summons due to his health condition. In addition, Soenarko had to have a medical examination at the hospital.

"Regarding the health condition of our client (Soenarko), he is currently carrying out a medical check-up at a private hospital in Jakarta, you know, because he is 67 years old," said Fery through a written statement, Friday, October 16.

Fery said his client had asked for a rearrangement of the inspection schedule. Soenarko will undergo questioning on Monday, 19 October next week.

In a later examination, Soenarko will explain all the subject matters depending on the year. The case of illegal possession of the police was handled by the National Police in May 2019. With the summons, it is hoped that the case that ensnared his client can be finished soon.

"Our client was recalled on charges of the same cases and all this time it turned out that he was only hanged for legal purposes, I also do not know and cannot understand the law," he explained.

Previously, the Director of General Crimes at Bareskrim Polri Brigadier General Ferdy Sambo said the summons to the former Kopassus Danjen to provide legal certainty for the suspect.

The summons for examination is a summons number S.Pgl / 2259-Subdit1 / X / 2020 / Dit Tipidum on Friday (16/10) at 10.00 WIB.

"To provide legal certainty for the party who has become a suspect, when the elements of the article are complete and fulfilled, they will immediately be sent to the prosecutor for trial," said Sambo.

Soenarko is suspected of smuggling firearms from Aceh to be used in the May 22 riots, which are considered to have the potential to disrupt national security.

In this case, Soenarko had been at the POM Guntur detention center, South Jakarta for some time. Until finally he was released after TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto volunteered as a guarantee for the suspension of Soenarko's detention.
