BMKG: Beware Of Extreme Weather In Central Java

SEMARANG - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to the public to be aware of extreme weather that could potentially occur in a number of areas of Central Java, including southern Central Java and the central mountains of Central Java on May 19-21.

"In the weather forecast released by the Central Java BMKG on Thursday (19/5) it is stated that based on the analysis of atmospheric dynamics, there is a cyclonic circulation in the western waters of West Kalimantan which forms a meeting area or slowing of wind speed (convergence) which extends from Central Kalimantan to Kalimantan. West," said Teguh Wardoyo, the head of the BMKG Meteorological Station at the Tunggul Wulung Station in Cilacap, as quoted by Antara, Thursday, May 19.

According to him, other convergence areas are also observed extending from the southern coast of Central Java, East Java, Central Sulawesi, Maluku and in Papua.

This condition is able to increase the potential for rain cloud growth around the cyclonic circulation area and along the convergence area as well as sea surface temperature anomalies in the Indian Ocean south of Java and the Java Sea which can increase the potential for rain cloud growth in several areas.

"The relatively high humidity also contributes to the formation of rain clouds in parts of Indonesia. Strong local lability also supports convective processes on a local scale in Central Java," he said.

Based on these conditions, he said, BMKG predicts the potential for moderate to heavy rainfall that can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds on 19-21 May 2022 in a number of areas of Central Java, including southern Central Java and the central mountains of Central Java.

According to him, the areas of southern Central Java and the central mountains of Central Java that have the potential for extreme weather on 19 May 2022 include Kebumen, Purworejo and Wonosobo regencies.

"Other areas of Central Java with the potential for extreme weather to occur on May 19 consist of the Regencies of Blora, Boyolali, Demak, Grobogan, Karanganyar, Kendal, Klaten, Kudus, Magelang Regency/City, Pati, Rembang, Semarang Regency, Sragen, Sukoharjo, Surakarta City. , Temanggung, Wonogiri and its surroundings," said Teguh.

Meanwhile, on May 20, 2022, he said, extreme weather has the potential to occur in the districts of Banjarnegara, Purbalingga, Kebumen, Purworejo, Wonosobo, Batang, Blora, Boyolali, Demak, Grobogan, Jepara, Karanganyar, Kendal, Klaten, Kudus, Magelang Regency/City, Pati, Pekalongan Regency, Rembang, Salatiga City, Semarang Regency/City, Sragen, Sukoharjo, Surakarta City, Temanggung, Wonogiri and surrounding areas.

Areas with the potential for extreme weather to occur on May 21, 2022 include the districts of Banjarnegara, Banyumas, Batang, Blora, Boyolali, Brebes, Demak, Grobogan, Jepara, Karanganyar, Kebumen, Kendal, Klaten, Kudus, Magelang Regency/City, Pati, Pekalongan Regency, Pemalang, Purbalingga, Purworejo, Rembang, Salatiga, Regency/City of Semarang, Sragen, Sukoharjo, Surakarta City, Regency of Tegal, Temanggung, Wonogiri, Wonosobo and surrounding areas.

"We urge the public to remain alert to the potential for extreme weather in the next three days that could potentially cause hydrometeorological disasters in the form of floods, flash floods, landslides, strong winds and tornadoes," said Teguh.
