Commission I Of The DPR Targets The Discussion Of The Personal Data Protection Bill To Be Completed Before July

JAKARTA - Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives targets the discussion of the Personal Data Protection Bill (RUU PDP) to be completed before the recess in early July. The reason is, the Session V of the DPR RI for the 2021-2022 Session Year will end on July 7, 2022.

The chairman of the PDP Bill Working Committee, Abdul Kharis Almasyhari, said Commission I of the DPR will hold another meeting with the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) on Tuesday, May 24, next.

The meeting, said Kharis, was to continue the discussion of the PDP Bill. It targets all articles to be completed at a meeting held next week.

"At least all the articles have been discussed," said Kharis to reporters, Thursday, May 19.

The Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the DPR said that the discussion of the PDP Bill had not been completed because there were still problems with the personal data protection supervisory agency.

"If it is met, it seems that hopefully it will be finished quickly. Because the articles that are not related to this supervisory body or institution, we have already agreed on it in early 2020," explained the PKS politician.

However, Kharis said Commission I of the DPR will continue to communicate with the Ministry of Communication and Information to find solutions and common ground regarding the issue.

"We are trying to find common ground so that this law can be completed. Considering that we are one of the countries that do not yet have a Personal Data Protection Law," Kharis concluded.
