Potential High Waves, Danger Signs Installed On Samas Beach Bantul

BANTUL - Danger signs were installed on Samas Beach, Bantul Regency to anticipate visitors playing water or bathing in the sea around the trough.

Samas Nugroho, secretary of the SAR Special Satlinmas Rescue Region IV, said the installation was carried out following an estimate from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) regarding the potential for high waves to occur from May 14 to May 20, 2022.

"To anticipate, we install signs at every point of the trough, and we also continue to give advice to visitors who come to the beach to play in the water or play on the beach," said Nugroho in Bantul, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, May 17.

He said that currently there are coastal troughs or basins at the bottom of the beach along the coast from Samas Beach on the east side to Baru Beach on the west side, even on each beach there is not only one trough.

"Many troughs, at every point on the coast there are, because the troughs are moving, each point on the coast has two, three, four troughs from Samas Beach to Baru Beach, basically at every point of the trough we put up danger signs," he said.

He hopes that visitors to the south coast will heed the direction of the SAR team not to play in the water at the time of the potential for high waves or tidal flooding or an increase in the height of the tidal wave.

He said, for the strength of the SAR personnel who were deployed to supervise and monitor the activities of beach visitors as many as 30 people during holidays or such as during the weekend holidays to coincide with the 2022 Vesak Day.

"The strength of personnel on national holidays, Saturdays and Sundays is 30 personnel, but on weekdays like this, because we are not on vacation and visitors are empty, we have 10 personnel on standby, from Samas Beach to Baru Beach," he said.

He said that currently the south coast waves ranged from three to four meters, an increase compared to normal wave conditions which averaged one to two meters.
