YOGYAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Johnny G. Plate introduced Javanese cultural philosophy to the delegates of G20 member countries who attended the second session of the Digital Economy Working Group or 2nd DEWG Meeting in Yogyakarta, Tuesday 17 May.

In the opening ceremony at the Tentrem Hotel, Johnny explained one of the Javanese philosophies of Hamemayu Hayuning Bawono which means that every human being is entrusted with maintaining and adding to the beauty of the world.

"With this philosophy, I hope that we can work hand in hand to make the world a better place, especially through digital technology," he said.

In front of 15 G20 delegates who were present in Yogyakarta, Johnny explained that Yogyakarta is a famous sultanate city on the island of Java. Therefore, he hopes that the 2nd DEWG Meeting can provide a memorable experience for state guests.

"I hope that all delegates are in good health and in high spirits to participate in this forum, because our meeting today is special; not only because it is held in one of the most charming cities in Indonesia, but also for the physical presence of many G20 delegates," he explained.

On that occasion, he also appreciated the commitment of all G20 members, both offline and online. He hoped that the second session of the G20 DEWG would be able to produce the best agreement, so that all delegates would have pleasant memories while in Yogyakarta.

The 2nd DEWG Meeting was chaired directly by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Communication and Information as well as the Chair of DEWG Mira Tayyiba and the Special Staff of the Minister of Communication and Information for Digital Policy and HR as the Alternate Chair DEWG Dedy Permadi.

Delegations from 15 G20 member countries who attended in person in Yogyakarta included the United States, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Britain, India, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the European Union; while the delegates attending online were Canada, China, Mexico, South Africa, and Russia.

Also present were invited delegates from Singapore and Cambodia, as well as representatives of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
