KUPANG - Four correctional inmates (WBP) who were convicted of violent cattle theft on Sumba Island were transferred from Class I IA Waingapu Prison, NTT, to Class I Batu Lapas, Nusakambangan Island, Central Java.

Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights NTT Marciana D. Jone said his party had returned from Nusakambangan and was on their way back to Jakarta.

"The handover was done earlier and we are currently on our way back to Jakarta," he said, quoted by Antara, Monday, May 16.

Marciana explained that the transfer of the four inmates was based on the order of the Governor of East Nusa Tenggara Viktor B. Laiskodat as stated in an official letter sent to the Directorate General of Corrections, Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia Number Hk.03.05/70/2022 dated March 11, 2022 regarding the request for the transfer of the inmates. correctional.

"We transferred the WBP to the Nusakambangan Prison as a result of the collaboration between the NTT Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office with the NTT Provincial Government by involving escort assistance from the NTT Police Mobile Brigade Unit," he said.

Four inmates with the initials AL, YS, UL, and RN were escorted directly by the Head of the Regional Office and the correctional staff to Nusakambangan Island on Sunday (15/5). The transfer went smoothly to Batu Class I Prison, Nusakambangan Island.

"We support the NTT Provincial Government which pays full attention to the community. With this transfer of WBP, it can have a deterrent effect on perpetrators of crimes on Sumba Island," said Marciana.

Marciana said the transfer of WBP from Sumba to Nusakambangan had taken place twice. In 2020 it has been implemented and has an impact on reducing the rate of livestock theft. However, there are still cases of violent theft. This is what demands that the government again facilitate the transfer of four WBP this year.

The transfer of WBP, he said, was assessed from various aspects, one of which was taken from the Prisoners Behavior Assessment System (SPPN) by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

Marci also admitted that she had given advice to the inmate to behave properly while in the prison.

Not only that, Marci hopes that the crime rate in NTT can decrease, one of which is the case of animal or livestock theft on Sumba Island.

"We do not forget to also thank the NTT Provincial Government, through the Governor and Deputy Governor of NTT who have facilitated us so that the transfer of WBP has been carried out smoothly and safely," he said.
