Tourists Who Disappeared For 6 Days At Pangandaran Beach Were Found Dead

GARUT - The joint SAR team managed to find a tourist from Cilacap, Central Java, dead who had previously been missing for six days due to being carried away by waves on the West Coast of Pangandaran, West Java.

Head of Operations and Alert Section of the Bandung Search and Rescue Office, Supriono, confirmed that the victim, Latipudin bin Warsono (35), a resident of Cigaru Village, Majenang District, Cilacap Regency, was found dead on the West Coast of Pangandaran, Monday morning.

"The joint SAR team found the drowned tourist on the West Coast, Pangandaran Regency," said Supriono, quoted by Antara, Monday, May 16.

He said the joint SAR team was searching for victims who were reported to have been swept away by the waves while swimming on the West Coast, Wednesday, May 11.

Since the victim was reported missing, he said, the team conducted a search by spreading along the coast and also into the middle of the ocean using a boat, but with no results.

The sixth day of the search, Monday at around 07.00 WIB, the joint SAR team found victims around the Nature Reserve close to the wreck of the MV Viking which was about 500 meters from the location of the initial incident the victim was dragged by the waves.

"Furthermore, the victim was evacuated to the Pandega Pangandaran Hospital for further examination," he said.

The incident occurred when the victim and her friend were swimming in front of the Pangandaran Sunset Park parking area in the West Coast area, May 11, 2022 at around 07.00 WIB.

According to witness testimony, the victim swam too far in the middle, and was then carried away by the waves and eventually disappeared.

After six days of the search process, the victim was finally found, then the search operation was stopped and all joint officers returned to their respective units.

The SAR elements involved include the Bandung SAR Office, Pangandaran SAR Alert Unit, Pangandaran Police Satpolir, Pangandaran Navy Post, PP Satpol, Pangandaran BPBD, MTA SAR, Persis Sigab, Baracuda SAR, and Balawista Life Guard.
