May Day Fiesta, Labor Voices 18 Demands: Starting From Rejecting Low Wages To Eliminating Outsourcing

JAKARTA - The Labor Party and the Indonesian Labor Movement held a May Day Fiesta in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area, Senayan, Central Jakarta, today, Saturday, May 14. 18 demands were voiced, including rejecting low wages to eliminating outsourcing.

"This activity is a series of May Day commemorations. On May 1 we also held an auction at the KPU, followed by the May Day Fiesta at the Usmar Ismail Film Building", said Labor Party President Said Iqbal in a written statement quoted on Saturday, May 14.

The full demands of the Labor Party and the Indonesian Labor Movement:

1. Reject the Omnibus law on the Job Creation Law;

2. Lower prices for basic commodities (cooking oil, meat, flour, eggs, etc.), fuel, and gas;

3. Pass the PPRT Bill, reject the revision of the PPP Law, reject the revision of the SP/SB Law;

4. Reject low wages;

5. Remove outsourcing;

6. Reject the increase in VAT tax;

7. Validate the RPP for the Protection of ABK and Migrant Workers;

8. Refuse to reduce PBI Health Insurance participants;

9. Realize food sovereignty and agrarian reform;

10. Stop criminalizing farmers;

11. Low tuition fees and free 15 years of compulsory education;

12. Appoint teachers and honorary staff to become civil servants;

13. Empowerment of the informal sector;

14. Ratification of ILO Conversion No. 190 on the Elimination of Violence and Harassment in the World of Work;

15. Ojol drivers are workers, not partners whose work relationship is not clear;

16. Hold elections on February 14, 2024, in a fair manner and without money politics;

17. Fair redistribution of wealth by adding social security programs (food security, housing, unemployment, education, and clean water); and

18. No one should go hungry in a rich land.

Regarding the implementation of the May Day Fiesta activity, based on VOI's monitoring at GBK, the mass of action has started arriving by bus.

As for the traffic situation, it can be seen from the GBK Panahan Gate, buses have started to fill the location and there are activities to raise and lower workers. Police officers are also seen trying to regulate the streets so that there is no congestion.

Previously, the Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Commissioner Endra Zulpan, said the Metro Jaya Police together with the TNI and the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta had prepared 5,260 joint personnel. Meanwhile, the May Day Fiesta will be attended by 60,000 people consisting of workers.

Meanwhile, the Head of Central Jakarta Police, Commissioner Komarudin, said that his party would examine the crowd who attended the demonstration. Inspections are carried out to prevent groups of intruders.

"We carry out inspections of our luggage or belongings such as weapons, rifles. Then also alcohol, including firecrackers, and so on", said Komarudin.

"This is prohibited, yes, this is for the sake of the implementation of this activity running smoothly, we hope together so that internal activities are not disturbed", he continued.
