DIY Prevents The Entry Of Animals From Areas Of Mouth And Nail Disease Outbreaks

YOGYAKARTA - Secretary of the Special Region of Yogyakarta Kadarmanta Baskara Aji asked the district/city governments in the local province to prevent the entry of livestock originating from areas with high risk of mouth and nail disease outbreaks.

"First of all, if there are farm animals that come from outside, make sure that they don't come from red areas, let alone black ones (high risk of nail-mouth disease outbreak)," said Baskara Aji as reported by Antara, Friday, May 13.

The DIY Regional Government has prepared a circular letter (SE) for the Governor of DIY for regents/mayors to take precautions.

According to him, all livestock entering DIY must be accompanied by an animal health certificate (SKKH).

"We have coordinated and we have prepared a circular to the regent/mayor to disseminate it to the people," he said.

Towards the momentum of Eid al-Adha 1443 Hijriah, all managers of Slaughterhouses (RPH) in DIY were also asked to check the cows and goats that were about to be slaughtered.

"Because it's impossible for us to guard every road, so at slaughterhouses or livestock sellers we ask to check the livestock which will later be sold or slaughtered," said Aji.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Department of Agriculture and Food Security (DPKP) of DIY Agriculture, Sugeng Purwanto, said that until now there have been no reports of cases of livestock infected with mouth and nail disease from five regencies/cities in DIY.

"For DIY it is still zero (cases of infection of the mouth and nails)," he said.

DPKP DIY, said Sugeng, is also preparing to form a Special Task Force Team (Satgasus) to anticipate animal diseases.

The task force will be tasked with preventing the entry of animals from the outbreak area by directly monitoring animal markets.

If animals that are indicated to carry viruses that cause mouth and nail disease are still found in DIY, Sugeng ensures that they will be immediately secured.

"At least not for sale, removed from the market. If it belongs to the local community, then immediately isolate it," he said.
