JAKARTA - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil has proposed to the central government that Depok City be the area that will receive the COVID-19 vaccine in the first phase.

"I have suggested to the central government that the first citizens to receive the vaccine are Depok City residents," Ridwan Kamil said as quoted by Antara , Wednesday, October 14.

Kang Emil, Ridwan Kamil's nickname, explained that the vaccines would come in two groups, namely for the first group that was purchased directly in November 2020 and the second stage which was produced domestically, namely Biofarma, only in January 2021 where Ridwan Kamil became one of the volunteers.

He said that Depok City has the highest level of COVID-19 transmission in West Java Province, for this reason the vaccine ordered by the central government which is scheduled to arrive in November 2020 is prioritized for areas that have a high transmission rate such as Depok City.

He said handling COVID-19 could not only rely on the government, but also needed the participation of all elements, including religious and community leaders.

"I implore community and religious leaders every morning, afternoon, evening and night to send messages to their followers to comply with the COVID-19 health protocol," he said.

For that, he invited religious and community leaders in Depok City to help disseminate health protocols to residents. All of that is to increase awareness regarding the prevention of transmission of COVID-19.

He said that these religious and community leaders will also be asked to monitor the local environment, if they find reactive residents without symptoms, ask them to be isolated in hospital.
