TANGERANG - The Department of Highways and Water Resources (DBMSDA) of Tangerang Regency, Banten, has immediately implemented a project to repair a number of road drainage channels in anticipation of flooding.

"God willing, starting in July 2022, after the auction process is complete, the drainage repairs can be carried out immediately at eight location points, which are spread across Tangerang Regency roads," said Tangerang Regency DBMSDA Head Iwan Firmansah Effendi quoting Antara, Thursday, May 12.

He said that there were eight points of road drainage improvement included in the rehabilitation project in the 2022 budget year, including Kutabaru; Sindang Jaya Street; Jalan Rajeg Rajawali, Kutajaya-Kutabumi; Substation - Tanah Merah; Jayanti-Megu-Cisoka; and Sukabakti-Binong-Curug.

"Later, the drainage repair work will be carried out in stages," he said.

He explained that this normalization of water flow needs to be done because there is silting of the channel due to sedimentation at the points of the channel.

"Repairs through normalization and widening of drainage are carried out in order to reduce inundation and potential flooding, and it is even an important need to maintain roads so they are not easily damaged. Because if they are flooded too often, the asphalt will easily peel off," he explained.

Meanwhile, in preparation for the start of the waterway repair or normalization project, his party is currently installing warning signs such as lighting at the location and regulating traffic speed which aims to minimize the risk of accidents.

"I appeal to the public to always be careful and stay alert in their activities around the drainage area," he said.

He revealed that so far the DBMSDA of Tangerang Regency has continued to seek solutions in accelerating the handling of floods that often occur in the area.

"So, the community can be patient because our handling is done in stages according to the regional financial capacity," he said.
