May Day Action, Police Ask Residents Not To Exercise At GBK 14 May

JAKARTA - Traffic Director of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Sambodo Purnomo Yogo asked the public not to exercise in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area on Saturday, May 14.

Because, on that day, the GBK area will be packed with tens of thousands of workers from various confederations who plan to hold an action entitled May Day Fiesta from 12.00 to 17.00 WIB. They came using thousands of buses.

"On Saturday, it's best not to exercise at GBK because from morning there will be buses between 800 and 1000 buses that will transport people to attend the May Day Fiesta," said Sambodo when met at the National Monument area, Thursday, May 12.

In addition, Sambodo also appealed to the public to avoid traffic in the Senayan area. This is because a number of workers will hold a demonstration in front of the Indonesian Parliament Building in the morning, followed by a long march to GBK to attend the May Day Fiesta in the afternoon.

"There will be tens of thousands of workers, so we urge all Jakarta residents, preferably on Saturday from morning to evening, avoid the Senayan area and in front of the MPR-DPR. That is, the Gatot Subroto area, Senayan, Youth Gate, Asia Africa, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, should be avoided," explained Sambodo.

Meanwhile, the President of the Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI) Andi Gani Nena Wea realized that the May Day Fiesta action would disrupt the smooth flow of traffic in the vicinity. Therefore, Andi apologized to the residents of Jakarta.

"We apologize to the residents of Jakarta, there will be around 1900 buses entering Jakarta on May 14," Andi said when met at the Arjuna Wiwaha Horse Statue area.

Andi asked the people who will be doing activities around GBK to understand that the labor activity which starts at 12.00 to 17.00 WIB is only held once a year.

"We apologize because this is a once-a-year activity. We make sure it is a peaceful action," said Andi.
