Jabodebek LRT Commercial Operation Begins December 2022

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or PT KAI revealed that the commercial operational phase of the Jabodebek LRT will begin in December 2022 or early 2023.

President Director of PT KAI, Didiek Hartantyo, said that August 2022 will be marked with a demo of the grade of automation (GOA) 3 in several cross-services.

Then it will be continued in October 2022, a trial run will be carried out. At the time of the trial run, the LRT will operate as usual, but there are no passengers yet.

"Only in December 2022 or early 2023, will the commercial operational phase of the Jabodebek LRT begin. We ask for the blessing of the community so that this settlement can run smoothly, and God willing, we will start at the end of 2022 or early 2023", said Didiek in an online seminar reported by Antara, Thursday, May 12.

He said that until now the total project progress as a whole is 81.75 percent. For the current milestones, KAI is carrying out testing and commissioning.

"Thus, if the public sees that there are LRT routes that are being run, then it is in the context of testing and commissioning", said Didiek.

The Jabodebek LRT is a national strategic project that aims to improve transportation services in support of development in the Jabodebek area.

The government initiated the acceleration of the construction of integrated Light Rail Transit (LRT) facilities and infrastructure by assigning PT Adhi Karya (Persero) Tbk. and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) as a BUMN which also has the goal of being an agent of development.

The Jabodebek LRT is expected to be one of the reliable modes of reducing congestion in Jabodebek.

Its presence as a rail-based mass public transportation is expected to increase the movement of private vehicle users to mass public transportation.

Previously, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) stated that the Jabodebek LRT, which is targeted to operate in August 2022, is planned to operate every day from 05.45 WIB to 23.00 WIB.

VP of Public Relations of KAI, Joni Martinus, said the service hours are to meet customer needs in starting activities in the morning until close to midnight.
