2 Youths Stabbed Using Folding Knives To Death In Yogyakarta, Case Triggered When Passing On Street

YOGYAKARTA - The police have arrested a man with the initials YF (25), the alleged perpetrator of the stabbing of two men on Jalan Selokan Mataram, Seturan, Caturtunggal, Depok, Sleman, Special Region of Yogyakarta. The stabbing victim died.

The Head of Public Relations of the Yogyakarta Regional Police Kombes Yuliyanto said YF was arrested in the Babarsari area, Sleman, on Monday, May 9. "Within 36 hours, the DIY Regional Police and a joint team managed to arrest the perpetrators," said Yuliyanto during a press conference at the DIY Police Headquarters quoted from Antara, Tuesday, May 10.

The stabbing incident occurred Sunday, May 8 in the morning at around 00.30 WIB at the intersection of Jalan Selokan Mataram, Seturan. TIP victim (29), a resident of Bangka Belitung, died on the way to the hospital due to a stab wound.

Meanwhile, victim DS (22), a resident of Pematang Siantar, North Sumatra, who was still a student in Yogyakarta, died while being treated at the Jogja International Hospital (JIH) at 04.50 WIB.

Director of the Ditreskrimum Polda DIY Kombes Ade Ary Syam Indriadi added, based on the testimony of witnesses and CCTV footage, YF was the only one who stabbed two victims with a pocket knife.

Ade explained that the case began when a group of six victims met with a group of perpetrators at an intersection in the Mataram Sewers area, Seturan, Sleman, early Sunday.

When they crossed paths, the two groups who did not know each other did not want to give up to give way.

The group of victims wanted to go north, while the group of perpetrators wanted to go east; resulting in conflict and cursing each other.

"During this check-in, there was a chase, cursing at each other, throwing things at each other, finally two victims were stabbed by YF," said Ade.

Victim DS suffered four wounds on the back and left chest, while victim TIP suffered three wounds on the chest and hip. "This is what caused these two victims to die," he said.

For this action, suspect YF who claimed to be a Maluku resident was charged with Article 170 of the Criminal Code and Article 351 paragraph (3) of the Criminal Code concerning Persecution and violence with sharp weapons that resulted in the death of a person, with a threat of seven years in prison.

While in Yogyakarta, YF admitted that he did not have a permanent job. "YF is not from Yogyakarta. Until now the perpetrators have not been able to show their identity or ID cards," said Ade.

Until now, the DIY Police are still investigating the case because it is possible that there are other perpetrators.
