Liar Huts And Dark Stalls Selling Alcohol On The Banks Of The Menteng BKB River Are Brought Under Control

JAKARTA - A number of dimly lit stall tents and illegal huts located on the banks of the West Flood Canal (BKB) along Jalan Latuharhari, Menteng District, Central Jakarta, were brought under control by joint officers, Tuesday, May 10, afternoon.

Two illegal hut owners and a dimly-lit drink seller were arrested and processed by the BAP for violating the Regional Regulation (Perda) related to public order (Tibum) in Menteng District.

"The targets for this joint control are PMKS, illegal huts, illegal MCK (public toilets) to tarpaulins from night stalls (warung dim-dim). There were three (warung), one MCK and dozens of bottles of liquor (alcohol) were found," said Deputy Menteng sub-district head Suprayogi told VOI, Tuesday 10 May.

Suprayogi continued, the control carried out by joint officers was where a former night stall often peddled liquor on the banks of Menteng's BKB River.

"It has been brought to order several times but there are still more. During the day the tent (the dimly lit stall) is folded up. We dismantle everything, they operate at night," he said.

As a result of the enforcement, dozens of filled and empty liquor bottles were also confiscated by officers as evidence.

"There were 30 bottles of red wine that were still filled and 20 empty bottles of alcohol were confiscated, tent tarpaulins, chairs and tables were also confiscated," he said.

The control was carried out following up on reports from the surrounding community who were increasingly restless over the practice of selling undercover alcohol. In fact, Suprayogi said that the owners of the tent stalls that were brought under control were old traders who lived on the banks of the BKB River.

"There is nothing (related to newcomers), all of them are old people. We will only follow up on public complaints, so we will organize them," he said.

Suprayogi appealed to alcohol sellers on the banks of the Latuharhari BKB River to be prohibited from selling again for violating the Regional Regulation. They also continue to monitor the future.

"There are 30 joint personnel deployed. Two alcohol owners and illegal huts, we are conducting a BAP in Menteng District," he concluded.
