Tens Of Thousands Of People Are Predicted To Enter Jakarta After Lebaran, Deputy Governor: Don't Become Unemployed

JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria responded to the prediction that tens of thousands of people would come to Jakarta after Lebaran this year. Riza said he didn't mind.

Because, according to him, Jakarta is not only intended for residents who live in the capital city, but also for people outside the region who want to make a living.

"We have never had any restrictions, let alone a ban on people coming to Jakarta. Anyone can come and even work in Jakarta," Riza told reporters, Tuesday, May 10.

However, Riza asked the migrants to ensure they could settle down with a clear place of residence and employment status. Thus, migrants from outside the region will not become unemployed upon arrival in Jakarta.

"Please pay attention to whether it is clear where you work and what you do, what you do, and who you work through," said Riza.

"Don't let you get wrong information later, then you don't get a job as expected, then later in Jakarta you become unemployed, it's not clear where you live, where you work, eventually causing other problems," he continued.

Previously, the DKI Provincial Government estimated that there would be 20 thousand to 50 thousand new arrivals after the 2022 Eid holiday. The number of new arrivals was triggered by several factors. One of them, the case of COVID-19 in the capital, which is increasingly under control.

"We estimate that this May there will be a spike to 20 thousand to 50 thousand new arrivals in Jakarta," said the Head of the DKI Jakarta Population and Civil Registry (Dukcapil) Office, Budi Awaluddin.

Budi estimates that May 2022 will be the period with the most arrivals as the flow of going home and returning to Lebaran. During 2022, the DKI Provincial Government (Pemprov) estimates that there will be an additional immigrant population of up to 180 thousand people.

"We estimate that this year will be the same as in 2019, around 150 thousand to 180 thousand per year," he said.
