JAKARTA - The DKI Provincial Government estimates that there will be 20 thousand to 50 thousand new arrivals after the 2022 Eid holiday.

The number of new entrants was triggered by several factors. One of them, the case of COVID-19 in the capital, which is increasingly under control.

"We estimate that this May there will be a spike to 20 thousand to 50 thousand new arrivals in Jakarta," said the Head of the DKI Jakarta Population and Civil Registry (Dukcapil) Office, Budi Awaluddin in Jakarta, Wednesday, May 4.

He estimates that May 2022 will be the period with the most arrivals as the flow of going back and forth to and after Lebaran.

During 2022, the DKI Provincial Government (Pemprov) estimates that there will be an additional immigrant population of up to 180 thousand people.

"Our estimate this year will be the same as in 2019, around 150 thousand-180 thousand per year," he said.

Budi noted that based on data from residents who provide population document services, for new arrivals during the last two years, namely 2020 and 2021, there was a decline.

The decline, he said, was triggered by the increase in positive cases of COVID-19 during the two years of the corona pandemic in Jakarta.

Budi explained that during 2018, the number of immigrants in Jakarta reached 151,017 people. Then, in 2019 the immigrant population in Jakarta increased to 169,778 people.

Furthermore, during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 the number of immigrants in Jakarta decreased to 113,814 people.

Meanwhile, in 2021 the number of immigrants in Jakarta will reach 138,740 people, an increase compared to 2020.

Based on the results of the population census of the DKI Jakarta Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2020, the total population in the capital city reached 10.56 million people.

During the last 10 years, BPS recorded an increase of 954.3 thousand people compared to the population census in 2010 or a growth rate of 0.92 percent.

Of the total population in DKI Jakarta, 71.98 percent are productive age residents, namely 15-64 years old and 8.59 percent are elderly.

The largest population concentration is in East Jakarta, reaching 3.04 million people.
