TANGERANG – Two people were charged with selling chicken containing formaldehyde in Neglasari, Tangerang. The arrests were made after officers from the Neglasari Sector Police received a report of a rogue chicken seller, two days before Eid Al-Fitr 1443 Hijriah.

The Head of Tangerang City Police, Kombes Komarudin, explained that the raid was carried out by the Neglasari Police on Saturday, April 30, at around 15.40 WIB.

"The chronology of the disclosure of this case began when the Neglasari Police received information from the public about the existence of two locations of beef chicken businesses that use formalin in Kedaung Wetan Village, Neglasari. Then the Neglasari Police, led directly by the Neglasari Police Chief, Kompol Putra Pratama, came to the location and found this crime and managed to arrest three suspects,” said Kombes Komarudin, in a written statement, Sunday, May 1.

Komarudin said that when officers arrived at the scene, they saw the perpetrators operating.

“Arriving at TKP 1, the Police Team caught red-handed, the perpetrators were slaughtering chickens. After the chicken is cut and cleaned, the chicken is put into a plastic box which contains formalin liquid and has been mixed with water. Then the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Neglasari Police confiscated a sample of 50 chicken pieces. Three samples of plastic boxes filled with formalin, and one bottle of mineral water filled with formalin." said Komarudin.

A similar incident was found at TKP 2, the perpetrators were caught red-handed soaking chicken pieces into a plastic box filled with formalin liquid. At this crime scene, samples of seven chicken pieces that were being soaked were confiscated, a sample of a plastic box filled with formalin, and a bottle of mineral water filled with formalin.

Komarudin explained that the suspects admitted that the chicken slaughter had been operating for about six years in the Negalasari area. The sales distribution of formalinated chicken is sold to Babakan Market, Tangerang District.

The perpetrators, continued Komarudin, used the formalin so that the chicken could last longer, last longer, and the meat was not soggy.
