Thousands Of Vehicles Stuck In Traffic At Gilimanuk Harbor, Predicted To Continue Until Tomorrow

JAKARTA - Thousands of vehicles, especially private cars and trucks, are stuck in traffic due to queues at Gilimanuk Harbor, Jembrana Regency, which is the main route for the Java-Bali homecoming.

Quoting Antara, Friday, April 20, long queues of vehicles began to occur on Thursday, April 28, which continued until Friday, April 29, in the afternoon, dominated by private cars.

To break the queue, officers carried out traffic engineering by directing buses and travel vehicles from the Denpasar-Gilimanuk main route to the LCM dock parking area.

Meanwhile, travelers riding motorbikes are directed to enter the village road in Gang I, while private cars go to Gang II and III in Gilimanuk Village.

As of Thursday night, a line of private cars and trucks had arrived in front of Gilimanuk Market, or about 1.5 kilometers from the port.

Anto, one of the truck drivers, admitted that he had been in line for five hours, after sending goods to Denpasar and returning to Java.

He revealed that many professional truck drivers are stuck in traffic in Gilimanuk, because after unloading their goods in Denpasar, they immediately return to Java, after there are regulations that they are temporarily prohibited from operating.

General Manager of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry Ketapang Hasan Lessy admitted that the homecoming flow had increased drastically since Thursday night, and is expected to continue until Saturday, April 30.

"If that method does not succeed in speeding up the queue, we will increase the fleet of ships or deploy ships with large carrying capacity," he said.

As of Friday at 08.00 WITA, 45,944 travelers have been registered to cross to Java via Gilimanuk Port, while the number of vehicles crossing is 9,266 units, private cars are 3,727 units and pick ups, buses, travel and trucks are 2,273 units.
