MEDAN - The Mayor of Medan, North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution directly monitors the prices and supplies of a number of basic commodities in the local area ahead of Lebaran.

One of the locations visited was the Medan Market Center on Jalan Pusat Pasar and it was found that the prices of several basic commodities had increased.

"There are several basic commodities whose prices have increased, including chicken meat, which has increased by Rp. 3,000 to Rp. 4,000, which is now being sold for Rp. 35,000 to Rp. 37,000 thousand per kilogram," he said, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, April 27.

The increase also occurred in the price of beef, which normally sells for Rp. 110 thousand per kilogram, now to Rp. 140 thousand per kilogram.

Then, chicken eggs, which are usually Rp. 1,500 per egg, have now increased to Rp. 2,000 per egg, and tomatoes, which are usually Rp. 8,000 per kilogram, have increased to Rp. 12,000 per kilogram.

The basic ingredients whose prices are still stable are red chilies, which are Rp. 30,000 thousand per kilogram, garlic at Rp. 25,000 thousand per kilogram and cayenne peppers at Rp. 25,000.

"This increase is not because the stock is decreasing, but because the price of the feed is rising," he said.

Mayor Bobby Nasution reviewed the prices of basic commodities accompanied by the Chairman of the Medan City PKK TP Kahiyang Ayu, Medan Police Chief Kombes Pol Valentino Alfa Tatareda, Dandim 0201/Medan Colonel Inf Ferry Muzawwad along with other Forkopimda elements.
