YOGYAKARTA - Yogyakarta Police will impose restrictions on traffic flow at the entrances of the area to anticipate the potential for traffic congestion for Lebaran 2022 homecoming.

"Based on the results of coordination, there will be restrictions on mobility or traffic. According to him, traffic engineering with restrictions on the number of vehicles entering the city of Yogyakarta will be carried out at the entrances at several points.

Among them, at Pingit intersection, Gejayan intersection, Wirobrajan intersection, BPK intersection, and at Pojok Beteng Wetan.

"Later on, police officers and personnel from the Yogyakarta City Transportation Service will be stationed at these points. When there is a buildup of vehicles, the engineering will be applied," he said.

In addition to traffic engineering, monitoring of parking lots will also be carried out, especially in three locations that are the main parking lots, namely Ngabean, Abu Bakar Ali, and Senopati.

"If the parking bag is no longer able to accommodate tourist vehicles, it will be conditioned in several additional locations," he said.

The increase in the volume of vehicles entering the city of Yogyakarta will not occur before Lebaran but it is possible to occur starting on D+1 or D+2 Lebaran. "At that time, we will carry out traffic engineering and optimize parking pockets so that the flow is smooth," he added.

Several locations prone to traffic jams, such as tourist destinations and souvenir centers, have also become a concern for the police by placing officers. "It is impossible to prohibit tourists from entering the souvenir center because they have come all the way to Yogyakarta," he said.

Therefore, he continued, what can be done is to keep traffic under control and smooth even though it will be crowded.

Head of the Yogyakarta City Transportation Service Agus Arif said that the application of traffic engineering will be carried out immediately if there is an escalation in the volume of vehicles in the city.

"For example, Jalan Margo Utomo is already congested and can no longer accommodate vehicles that will enter Malioboro, so what must be done is to carry out engineering so that the current flows," he said.

In addition to restrictions, engineering is also carried out by increasing the distance traveled or diverting vehicles to other roads so that the current continues to flow.

"The density nodes include Malioboro, Tugu, the Keraton area, culinary centers and souvenirs, to tourist destinations," he said.
