DPR Plans To Form A Jiwasraya Special Committee

JAKARTA - PT Asuransi Jiwasraya (AJS) 's default case has attracted public attention because it caused state losses of around Rp. 13.7 trillion. In the aftermath of this case, a proposal emerged to form a special committee (special committee) for Jiwasraya. This proposal continues to roll out in the DPR.

Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, revealed that five of the nine factions agreed to form the Jiwasraya Special Committee. The special committee is needed to investigate cases involving the red plate.

"We will only enter (after) the recess on the 13th. But informally five factions have agreed to the Jiwasraya special committee," he said, at the DPR Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, January 9.

The five factions are the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the Democrats, the National Democratic Party (NasDem), the Golkar Party and the Gerindra Party faction.

"To respond to that, we will hold a leadership meeting and then a Deliberative Council (Bamus) meeting which will accommodate proposals from the factions before they are thrown into the plenary session," he explained.

Dasco explained that the proposal to form a special committee could still change. However, what is clear is that the DPR has the spirit to participate in overseeing the legal crisis process at PT Asuransi Jiwasraya.

"That was just informal about the special committee, yes, later we will talk at the special committee, whether the special committee or the committee. The important thing is how we uncover what is the problem that is involved in Jiwasraya, then where is the money, and how is the solution," he said.

PPP Secretary General Arsul Sani explained that his party has not been able to make a decision regarding the formation of the Jiwasraya Special Committee. However, in principle PPP is not allergic to the special committee.

"We certainly cannot agree or disagree now. But we respect friends who want to initiate, later we will see the special committee material," said Arsul.

Arsul said the special committee was an instrument to investigate the default case and manipulation of the insurance company's financial statements. Thus, its formation may not be based on political grounds.

"But also from the start we have to remind also that of course later if we agree to have a special committee, this is not a political goal. This is to help guard law enforcement in the Jiwasraya case which is currently being handled by the Attorney General's Office," he said, adding that a special committee could be formed only by one fraction totaling 25 people.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Commission XI, the commission whose scope of duties is in the financial and banking sector, has not wanted to rush into forming this Pansus. Chairman of Commission XI DPR Dito Ganinduto said, Commission XI DPR will first conduct a joint meeting with a number of policy makers.
