JAKARTA - Law expert from Airlangga University Surabaya, I Wayan Titib Sulaksana supports the Attorney General's Office to ensnare a suspect in the cooking oil corruption case using articles that carry life imprisonment and the death penalty.

The four suspects are the Director General of Foreign Trade of the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, Indrasari Wisnu Wardhana, the other three are from the private sector. They are Permata Hijau Group's Senior Manager of Corporate Affairs, Stanley MA; Commissioner of PT Wilmar Nabati Indonesia, Master Parulian Tumanggor; and General Manager of PT Musim Mas General Affairs, Picare Togar Sitanggang

"Thank God the intellectual actors of the cooking oil mafia have been revealed. Of course, the AGO has at least two sufficient preliminary evidence to ensnare the Director General of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Trade regarding the export permit for 159.5 tons of cooking oil which should be for domestic needs," said Sulaksana as quoted by Antara, Thursday 21 April.

"This clearly violates Article 2 and Article 3 of Law Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption (UU Tipikor)," he said.

Article 2 states that (1) Anyone who unlawfully commits an act of enriching himself or another person or a corporation that can harm state finances or the state economy, shall be sentenced to life imprisonment or a minimum imprisonment of 4 (four) years. and a maximum of 20 (twenty) years and a fine of at least Rp. 200,000,000 (two hundred million rupiah) and a maximum of Rp. 1,000,000,000 (one billion rupiah). (2) In the event that the criminal act of corruption as referred to in paragraph (1) is committed under certain circumstances, the death penalty may be imposed.

Meanwhile, Article 3 states that any person who with the aim of benefiting himself or another person or a corporation, abuses the authority, opportunities or facilities available to him because of a position or position that can harm the state finances or the state economy, is sentenced to life imprisonment. or imprisonment for a minimum of 1 (one) year and a maximum of 20 (twenty) years and or a fine of at least Rp. 50,000,000 (fifty million rupiah) and a maximum of Rp. 1,000,000,000 (one billion rupiah).

"I agree with the threat because it is comparable to the suffering of the Indonesian people who line up to buy subsidized cooking oil, even to the point that some people die of exhaustion," he asserted.

According to Wayan, corrupt officials are likened to traitors to the state and the most appropriate punishment is the death penalty.

"It is time for the sentence to be carried out. But the execution must be carried out immediately, after the Corruption Court's decision has permanent legal force," he said.

The four people were named suspects in the alleged corruption case in granting export facilities of crude palm oil or CPO or cooking oil which is said to cause cooking oil to be expensive and scarce.]
