JAKARTA - The House of Representatives' Honorary Court (MKD) reminded the Indonesian Police that Eddy Soeparno has inherent immunity rights as a member of the Indonesian Parliament. This was reminded to deepen the report against the Secretary General of PAN because of a blasphemous tweet reported by University of Indonesia (UI) lecturer Ade Armando.

"Of course we need to remind the National Police as partners regarding the non-negotiable immunity of DPR members," said Deputy Chairperson of the DPR MKD Habiburokhman to reporters, Thursday, April 21.

The member of Commission III of the DPR explained that the immunity rights of members of the DPR are regulated in Article 20A of the constitution and Article 224 of the MD3 Law. Where according to Habiburokhman, the regulation is very detailed, namely that members of the DPR have immunity in submitting questions, statements, opinions, attitudes, actions and activities both orally and in writing, both inside and outside the courtroom. So, he said, there is no loophole for members of the DPR to be legally questioned. "And it should be noted that membership status is attached 24 hours. Wherever we are during our term of office, we are still bound as members of the DPR," he explained.

According to the Gerindra politician, the immunity rights of council members also occur in the parliaments of a number of countries so that they have the courage to speak in public. So, no more negotiable.

"The right of immunity is important to voice the voice of the people. It's the same in the whole world," he concluded. Previously, Polda Metro Jaya gave the reason the police received a report from Ade Armando against Eddy Soeparno. According to the Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya Kombes E Zulpan, all public reports will be accommodated by the police. "We can accept this report from everyone," said Zulpan at the Polda Metro Jaya, Jakarta, Wednesday, April 20.

However, Zulpan said, the police will investigate each report that has been received. Including Eddy Soeparno's immunity rights as a member of the DPR, he said, would also be one of the investigators' considerations in handling the case.

"The right to immunity is a right owned by members of the DPR RI, but it is related to their activities as members of the Council in carrying out activities," he said.
